Simple Edge Touch-Up on Denim

Denim stropping is a simple and effective way to maintain the edge of a Rockstead knife. Make your own stropping board by following the procedure below and use it regularly for light edge maintenance.

With proper use, this method can help maintain sharpness for 2–3 years. When stropping no longer restores cutting performance, you may send the knife to Rockstead in Japan for factory regrinding. Regrinding is free of charge; return shipping is the customer’s responsibility

Sharpening with Rockstead COMP2

COMP2 is a specialized sharpening device developed by Rockstead for maintaining the polished edge geometry of Rockstead Honzukuri and Shinogizukuri blades. It holds fine-grit abrasive paper under tension, creating a controlled surface for careful edge maintenance.

  • When sharpening a Honzukuri blade, use the rubber backing sheet included with the set.
  • When using Rockstead COMP2, do not abrade the entire mirror-polished surface. Work only on the final 2–3 mm of the polished surface directly behind the cutting edge.
  • Use water or sharpening oil to lubricate the abrasive surface during sharpening. This helps cool the surface, improves blade glide, and carries away metal particles and abrasive debris.
